Creation of decorative elements for charts

For a decorative element which is used in charts, presence at the lowermost level (under all elements) a rectangle restricting actually a picture of an element is characteristic. Thus given rectangle can have any parameters of a circuit and filling, and can be "invisible".

On this rectangle the element picture goes mad, and all construction is selected with usage, ?????????? Selection (Selection) (), and then is fulfilled command Gronp. (C????????????) menu Object (Object).

For saving of the received group of objects as a decorative element command Design (Design) of menu Object/Graphs (Object/chart) which displays dialog box Graph Design (the Sample of design) (fig. 13.26) is fulfilled.
Rice 13.26. Dialog box Graph Design

Click on button New Design (the New sample) places the created image of a decorative element in a review window. The image is restricted to area of a background rectangle, therefore at the big sizes the decorative element can be beyond this rectangle that is noticeable in a review window, but on the chart it ?????????????? completely.
Nota Bene. It is necessary to mean that this rectangle is necessary only for positioning of a decorative element concerning chart axes (it some kind of "a basic line" an element if to use comparing with a font).

In the list of dialog box Graph Design (the Sample of design) there is a name offered by the program which at will can be changed, Click on button Rename to (Rename) causes an appropriate dialog box for input of the name defined by the user. Click on button OK saves a new decorative element.

For creation of a decorative element which can be used as column Sliding (the Partial adjustment), it is necessary to add in addition to the above-stated procedures by means of tool Pen (Pen) () lines of section of nonscalable and scaled parts. It is necessary to lead strictly horizontal line. Then to select all objects, including and a horizontal line, and to fulfill grouping.

Then, by means of tool Direct Selection. (The Partial selection) () or Group Selection (Selection in group) () to select, only a horizontal line and to execute command Make Guides (to Form guides) menu View (Review) which transforms a graphic line into a guide.

Selecting all group, it is necessary to remove guide line fixation ? to execute command Lock Guides (to Fix guides) menu View (Review). On it creation of the original for column Sliding (the Partial adjustment) comes to an end, and it is possible to use procedure of saving of a picture as the decorative element, described above.

Decorative elements, unconditionally, decorate the chart, but simultaneously complicate reading of numeric data. Therefore in Adobe Illustrator program possibility of layout of numerical values immediately on decorative elements is provided.

For this purpose it is required to master one more ????????????? procedure.

After creation of a graphic basis of a decorative element, it is necessary to include tool Type (Text) () to enter the conditional text, allocating it on the element or within "a background" rectangle, and to issue its appearance (fig. 13.27).
Rice 13.27. An initial decorative element with the conditional text and the chart with display of numerical values

The conditional text consists in the following: at first the percent sign (%), then two digits (from 0 to 9) is entered.

The first digit designates digit capacity to a comma, the second ? after a comma. If on a place of the first digit to enter 0 the program automatically installs appropriate digit capacity. Values after a comma if it is necessary, are automatically approximated.

For alignment setting on decimal ????e it is necessary to appropriate in palette Paragraph (Paragraph) right ????????.

All objects, including the conditional text, the above described procedure of saving of a decorative element is selected and fulfilled.

At creation of decorative elements for charts it is necessary to consider a program singularity: the created element is saved with the document, therefore if it is required to use the same element in other document it is necessary to open the initial document simply.

When file discovery is inexpedient, it is possible to use command Other library (Other library) menu Window/Swatch Libraries (the Window / Library of samples). It is necessary to select the necessary file From the opened dialog box, and after button click Open to (Open) graphic elements begin accessible in dialog box Graph Design (the Sample of design).

Usage of decorative elements for design of charts

The created and saved decorative elements can be used for design of columns (columns) and bands (bars) in charts of type Column (Vertical bands), Stacked Column (the Vertical stack), Bar (Horizontal bands). Stacked Bar (the Horizontal stack), and also as decorative markers (markers) ? in charts of type Line (the Linear schedule) and Scatter (Dot chart).

To issue decorative elements columns or bands. It is necessary to select them by means of tool Group Selection (Selection in group) (), and then to execute command Column (Bands) of menu Object/Graphs (Object/chart) which displays dialog box Graph Column (a chart Band) (fig. 13.28).
Rice 13.28. Dialog box Graph Column

The content of lists of dialog box Graph Column (Bands, charts) is described in the previous sections. It is necessary to pay attention to flag Rotate Legend Design (to Rotate a decorative element of a legend) which setting turns decorative elements in a legend only.

Besides, at a choice in list Column (Band) of variant Repeating (Repeated repetition) in list Column Type (band Type) become accessible:
Field Each Design Represents (Each decorative element displays), intended for ratio determination "a unit of measure - a decorative element";
List For Fractions (For fractional parts) ? for a choice of a method of display of fractional parts.

For design of line charts and charts of dispersion by means of decorative markers it is necessary tool Direct Selection (the Partial selection) () to select reference points and legends (but not lines!) and then to execute command Marker (Markers) of menu Object/Graphs (Object/diagram).

As a result dialog box Graph Marker (chart Markers) (fig. 13.29) which represents the simplified variant of dialog box Graph Column (a chart Band) opens. It is necessary to select an appropriate marker From it and to push the button APPRX.
Rice 13.29. Dialog box Graph Marker

The decorative element is scaled to a small square of a reference point of the chart, therefore it is not necessary to apply unduly detailed pictures to such markers.

Editing of a decorative element

If the user allocates possibility to change the original, was a source of a decorative element it is necessary to be guided by the procedures described above. Look above section "Creation of decorative elements for charts" ?????? heads.

But also in the absence of the initial original the program allows to derive it from the list (fig. 13.26 see) and to change.
At first menu Edit (Editing) that in the document does not remain the selected objects, and then ? command Design (Design) of menu Object/Graphs (Object/diagram) is necessary to execute command Deselect All (to Cancel selection).
From opened dialog box Graph Design (the Sample of design) (fig. 13.26 see) to select from the list the necessary element and to push button Paste Design (to Paste the sample).

As a result the vectorial original which is admitted to edit will be transferred to the document: After its editing it is possible to transform again into a decorative element, if needed appropriating it other name.

Export of decorative elements to other documents

If operation with charts makes the main or an integral part of operation of the user it is useful to create the user load file. In this case not only decorative filling, but also decorative elements of charts will be accessible in appropriate palettes and dialog boxes at discovery of any document.

The information on creation of the user load file look in chapter 8.
