The one who does nothing is not mistaken only. In real practice even the most attentive and thoughtful user is trapped by inevitable and annoying errors. The main means of struggle against it are commands Undo to (Cancel) and Redo to (Repeat) menu Edit (Editing) which allow to cancel or repeat one or several previous operations.

Adobe Illustrator program admits to such 200 cancellings (repetitions), and the program has an interesting property: cancellings can be fulfilled and after command Save to (Save) if thus not to close a file.

Such tremendous possibilities, nevertheless, can be restricted by volume of an accessible random access memory. If it happens, on the screen the appropriate message is deduced.

By default the minimum quantity of failures is accepted equal 5. This value can be changed in the field Undo (the Cancelling of commands) (fig. 2.23) section Units and Undo (Units of measure and a canceling of commands) dialog box Preferences (Setting) which is caused by command Preferences (Setting) of menu Edit (Editing).

One of radical methods of bug fixing is reset to the last saved version of the document. Reasonable strategy of serial saving of the intermediate stages of operation allows to lower possible "alterations" to a minimum.

For recovery of prior version of the document it is necessary to use command Revert to (Recover) menu File (File).

Nota Bene. It is necessary to consider only that this command is not subject to a failure, so, to address to saving command Undo it is impossible to (Cancel) already.

Usage of additional units

Additional (plug-ins units represent the special subroutines developed by the firm of adobe Systems or other firms and intended for the extension of possibilities of the main program.

At program installation the folder/Plug-ins automatically turnes on a dial-up of applied additional units.

At change of a folder with additional units it is necessary to fulfill appropriate setting in the field Plug-ins Folder (the Folder with additions) section Plug-ins and Scratch Disk (Additions and working disks) dialog box Preferences (Setting) which is caused by command Preferences (Setting) of menu Edit (Editing).

If the user had a necessity independently to create the additional unit for Adobe Illustrator program it is necessary to address on the web site

The new document can be created at any moment, and also at any moment to open any of existing documents.

For creation of the new document it is necessary to execute command New (File) (New) menu File. On the screen dialog box New Document (the New document) (fig. 2.24) in which it is possible to define following parameters is deduced:

	The arbitrary name of the document in the field Name (Name), by default is offered a name Untitled - with serial number. The user has the right to accept the given name or to enter another;
	Color model: in the field Color Mode (Color model) switches CMYK Color (Colour of model CMYK) and RGB Color (Colours of model RGB) are offered. About operation with color look in chapter 8;
	Document page size: in the field Artboard Size (the Size of printing page) it is possible to define its width (field Width) and height (field Height).

Nota Bene. For creation of the new document without a call of this dialog box it is necessary to push keys [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [N].

For discovery of the existing document it is necessary to execute command Open to (Open) menu File (File). On the screen the dialog box with the same name which differs nothing from a normal window of operational environment Windows except for a window of the review allocated in the lower part of a dialog box is deduced. In a review window appearance of page of the document which is saved together with the document in the form of the small point image (fig. 2.25) is displayed.

As Adobe Illustrator program allows to open simultaneously some documents possibility is provided to close (to delete from a random access memory) documents unnecessary at present. At performance of command Close to (Close) menu File (File) the active document is closed. If at command performance to retain a key [Alt] all documents will be closed. If in any documents changes have been fulfilled, the request about their saving follows.

To save the document in Adobe Illustrator program it is possible in several ways.

	Command Save to (Save) menu File (File) saves the current document under the same name, in the same folder and in the same format, in other words, the new information is saved instead of that which has been saved earlier.
	Command Save As (to Save as) gives the chance to save the current document under other name, in other folder and even in other format. At saving of the new document or at performance of this command on the screen dialog box Save is deduced to (Save) (fig. 2.26) which allows to appropriate to the document any name to select the necessary folder and to install one of available formats.

	Command Save a Copy (to Save a copy) menu File (File) serves for saving of a copy of the current document, adding to a name of a file a word "Copy". More the detail information on saving of documents in various formats look in chapter 14.
	To save all open documents, it is necessary to (Save) at performance of command Save to retain a key [Alt].

The general setting by default Adobe Illustrator programs (parameters of display and a color separation, a unit of measure, parameters of export of the data and so forth) at program closing are saved in special file AlPrefs which Data \adobe \adobe Illustrator 9 is in folder Windows\Application.

On saving of this file time, therefore Adobe Illustrator program is required is not closed instantly.

The majority of the setting saved in this file, are defined in dialog box Preferences (Setting) which is caused by command General (Main) menus Edit/Preferences (Editing/installation).

In this dialog box following sections are presented.

	In section General (Cores) are defined setting for tools and many other general options.
	In section Type and Auto Tracing (the Font and autotrace) are defined parameters of operation with a font and autotrace parameters.
	In section Units and Undo (Units of measure and a canceling of commands) are defined units of measure for measuring rulers and for a font, and also the maximum number of rollbacks of the fulfilled commands.
	In section Guides and Grid (Guides and a grid) are defined parameters of guide lines and a grid.
	In section Smart Guides ("Clever" guides) parameters of the dynamic guides intended for alignment of objects are defined.
	In section Hyphenation Options (transfer Parameters) the dictionary of transfers is defined and the list of exceptions is formed.
	In section Plug-ins and Scratch Disk (Additions and working disks) are defined working disks for storage of the temporal information and a location of additional units.
	In section Ries and Clipboard (Files and Clipboard) are defined methods of update of files and transmission of vectorial circuits through a clipboard of data Clipboard.

For an output from the program there are following possibilities:

	Command Exit (Output) which performance closes the program is presented to menu File (File). If there are not saved documents, on the screen the request for each document separately is deduced;
	It is possible to use a keyboard equivalent commands Exit (Output) ? set of keys [Ctrl] + [Q];
	By means of keys [Alt] + [F4] it is possible to close any active program working in operational environment Windows, including Adobe Illustrator program.
