CHAPTER 9

Graduated fill (extension) represents the continuous passage of one color in another or passage between various shades of one color. One extension can consist of several simple passages.

Decorative filling (pattern) consists in filling of a circuit of object with decorative elements (tiles).

In the program the special type of filling ? a graded-index grid (gradient mesh) which represents a binding of a gradient to the mesh structure (frame) providing simulation of volume is presented.

All these types represent graphically more difficult filling, than simply color. However in usage they as are simple, as well as normal assignment of color parameters.

Graduated fills

Graduated fill is favourite means of "ornament" of beginning designers as really step-by-step passage from one color to another impresses (especially on the monitor screen, and at printout or in polygraphic execution the impression can essentially grow dim).

Colors for a graded-index extension can be in models CMYK, RGB, are used and ????????? colors.

To appropriate to object a graded-index extension, it is necessary to select, activate this object color indicator Fill (Filling) in a palette of tools.

For extension display in the indicator it is necessary to include button Gradient (Gradient) ? the average button under color indicators in a palette of tools.

Extension parameters are defined in palette Gradient (Gradient) (rice, 9.1), which is caused by command Show Gradient (to Show a gradient) menu Window (Window).
Rice 9.1. Palette Gradient

For determination of initial color of an extension it is necessary to click on the left rectangle under a scroll bar (a sign of the active state the black triangle over a rectangle is) and to fulfill one of following actions.
At a pushed key [Alt] to click on one of samples palettes Swatches (Directory).
To define new color in palette Color (Synthesis).
Nota Bene. It is necessary to mean that at extension creation between two ?????????? colors it is necessary to remove flag Convert to Process (All triad) in dialog box Separation Setup (Color separation) if the separate color-splitted print ?????????? colors is required. The information on it look in chapter 16.

For determination of finite color of an extension it is necessary to click on the most right small square under a scroll bar and to use specified a cart-mozhnosti.

(Type) it is possible to select one of two types of a gradient from uncovered list Type:
Linear (Linear), ? color passage is spread along a direct line;
Radial (Radial), ? color passage is spread on concentric circles.

The linear extension can be inclined, for this purpose in the field Angle (Corner) it is necessary to enter appropriate value in a range from?180 to 180 degrees.

Initial and finite points of an extension can be moved along a band, thereby narrowing down or expanding an extension range. By default the central point in which both colors contain in identical proportions, is allocated strictly in the middle. If it is required to drift a central point it is necessary to move ?????? over a scroll bar (fig. 9.2) or to enter appropriate value in the field Location (Position).
Rice 9.2. Offset of a central point and results of it for the linear and radial extensions

In the given document it is enough for saving of the most successful extensions from palettes Gradient (Gradient) or from the color indicator of filling in a palette of tools to "drag" an extension in palette Swatches (Directory). The Same purpose can reach if to click on button New Swatch (the New sample) () in the lower part of a palette.

Creation of colorfull graded-index extensions

On determination the gradient, or a graded-index extension, means the smooth passage from one color to another that at all does not hinder with connection of several passages in one extension (fig. 9.3). To add new passage, it is necessary to fulfill one of following actions.
To "capture" necessary color in palettes Color (Synthesis) or Swatches (Directory) and to "drag" it on an extension band in palette Gradient (Gradient), and being guided in the area of the cursor, to place in a schedulable place. After mouse button release under new color there is a small square with which help it is possible to reposition color in an extension.
It is possible to create at first a small square, and then to appropriate to it color parameters. For this purpose it is necessary to click in a proper place under an extension band, and then to define color in palettes Coior (Synthesis) or Swatches (Directory).

Superfluous small squares are deleted their relocation downwards for palette limits.

Tool Gradient

Tool Gradient (Gradient) () (fig. 9.4) allows in object with an extension in an interactive mode to change an extension direction to redefine initial and finite points of an extension, and also to appropriate parameters of the same extension simultaneously to several objects ¦ to "expand" it on set of objects).

That in an interactive mode to redefine an extension direction, it is necessary to select object with an extension, to include tool Gradient (Gradient), to bring the cursor to extension starting point, to push the mouse button, to stretch it to an ending point and to release the button. Thus the imaginary line along which the extension "is spread" is designated. At key keeping [Shift] the line direction, to the multiple 45 degrees is provided.

To "stretch" an extension through some objects, it is necessary ???????? these objects, by means of palettes Color (Synthesis) or Swatches ? the Directory) to each of them to appropriate parameters of a demanded extension, then to include tool Gradient (Gradient), and with its help to "stretch" an imaginary line through all objects.
